Cymbalta Suicide Attorneys

The Food and Drug Administration requires that all selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI’s) must carry a warning label explaining that the use of these drugs in patients may play a role in the increased risk of suicide for this age group. The warning label is known as a Black Box warning and is the most serious warning the FDA will issue. Cymbalta, suicide and withdrawal syndrome have becoming almost synonymous as a number of Cymbalta patients have reported severely adverse side effects and suicide attempts following the cessation of taking the drug Cymbalta.

The FDA bases its Cymbalta suicide data on studies conducted by two independent research groups. In these tests, the FDA found that children and adolescents carried a 2-fold increase of “suicidal ideation” and young adults in the 18-24 age group were up to 1.5 times more likely to suffer from suicidality than their peers not taking Cymbalta.

Cymbalta is approved for use in the United States for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), major depression, fibromyalgia and diabetic neuropathy. In other nations, Cymbalta is approved for use in patients suffering from a condition known as stress urinary incontinence. However, when Cymbalta was tested in the United States for that use, the FDA reluctantly reported that eleven suicide attempts occurred in patients given Cymbalta versus those receiving placebo pills.

Cymbalta suicide is a severe problem and patients’ families are beginning to commence lawsuits against the makers of the drug to hold them responsible for the harm their drug has done to loved ones. A lawsuit is a civil way to properly allocate liability upon the party responsible for the harm of another. In the aftermath of a Cymbalta suicide, immediate family members may be entitled to compensation for pain and suffering under the laws of wrongful death.

If your loved one recently attempted suicide and was prescribed Cymbalta for the treatment for any of the above-mentioned disorders, a Cymbalta lawsuit may be the best option for you and your family. In times of grief, it is comforting to know that those injured by others retain their legal rights and should exercise those rights.
